An unusually elegant example of mid-century Chinese export porcelain, this 6.5-inch round teapot trivet or stand combines delicate botanical decoration with an elaborate gold-gilt border and a softly colored pale green rim. Its distinctly Western-influenced decoration gives the piece an especially interesting character, blending traditional decorative porcelain craftsmanship with the European-inspired floral and rococo aesthetic produced for the export market.
The central decoration features softly rendered flowers and foliage in muted shades of blush pink, peach, cream, green and brown against a luminous white porcelain ground. An intricate scrolling gilt border encircles the face, creating the refined appearance of a much earlier European decorative porcelain piece. A restrained pale celadon-green edge provides a beautiful finishing detail.
