The vessel displays the subtle variations in form, throwing and glaze application expected of individually hand-thrown studio pottery. This signed hand-thrown studio pottery vase is a particularly handsome small-scale ceramic form, combining a rounded, beautifully balanced profile with a sophisticated blue-gray and dramatic charcoal-black drip glaze. At just 4.5 inches tall and approximately 5 inches wide, it has the proportions of a compact decorative vessel rather than a large vase, giving it considerable visual presence without requiring much display space.
The potter created a low, rounded body that rises into a short, defined neck and gently flared opening. Visible throwing lines inside the vessel and subtle irregularities in the form are evidence of its wheel-thrown construction and contribute to the individual character of the piece.
