Item Details, Condition & Measurements

A substantial, hand-thrown American studio stoneware vessel, dating to the late 20th century (circa 1980s–1990s), with the weight, presence, and quiet authority of a truly collected object — curated from my personal pottery collection and originally selected for display in an art-forward primitive French country interior.

* American studio stoneware, hand-thrown * Late 20th century (circa 1980s–1990s) * Strong visual ties to Southern Appalachian pottery traditions, including the Seagrove, North Carolina region * Heavier than most examples of this size * Substantial, collector-quality form * Glaze variation with depth and movement * Increasingly difficult to find pieces with this presence and neutrality

* Broad shoulder * Balanced proportions * Strong, confident handle * Corked top that adds sculptural presence

The scale (10.5” tall, 9” wide), the density, and the natural variation in the glaze immediately set it apart from typical studio pottery. The surface moves between deep iron browns and near-black tones, with organic transitions that could only come from a live kiln firing — no two areas exactly alike.

* Excellent overall condition * One small chip at the mouth (shown clearly) * One kiln-related glaze imperfection from firing (original to the piece)
