Item Details, Condition & Measurements
Originally used for the storage and transport of matches, this substantial black japanned metal box now makes a striking primitive farmhouse display piece. It would be equally at home beside a fireplace holding long fireplace matches, kindling, pine cones, or other hearth accessories.
The lid is embossed “THE DIAMOND MATCH COMPANY” and the interior of the lid features matching embossed advertising. The original wire carry handle, hinged lid, and latch remain intact, preserving the authentic character of this early industrial utility piece.

Good antique condition with honest age-related wear.
This piece exhibits oxidation, surface rust, paint loss, scratches, dents, finish wear, and discoloration consistent with more than a century of use and storage. The rust has been carefully cleaned and stabilized with food-grade mineral oil to preserve the original surface while preventing further deterioration. however, for permanent uses you might consider applying a clear coat
The lid opens and closes properly. Original handle and hinge remain present. Please review all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.
