This is Volume I of Portrait Gallery of Eminent Men and Women of Europe and America by Evert A. Duyckinck, published by Johnson, Wilson & Company of New York. This book is in antique condition and is being sold as found.
The front board is detached from the text block. The leather binding exhibits significant wear, rubbing, scuffing, edge loss, and age-related deterioration. Interior pages show toning, foxing, staining, and signs of age and use. There is a noticeable old-book odor present.
Despite its condition issues, the book remains highly desirable because all forty-six engraved portrait plates are present and retain their original tissue guards. The marbled endpapers remain attractive, and the book displays beautifully as a historical and decorative object.
