Time and use have given this small Japanese pottery dish the wonderfully layered surface that collectors of primitive and timeworn interiors seek out. Its oval form is surrounded by a deeply scalloped rose-pink border, with bold cobalt blue and orange dimensional floral details at either end and a colorful floral motif painted across the warm ivory center.

The underside carries a simple MADE IN JAPAN mark. While the manufacturer is unidentified, the construction, decoration and country-of-origin marking are consistent with Japanese export pottery of the early to mid-20th century. The broad Made in Japan designation was used over a long period, however, so the dating should be considered an informed estimate rather than attribution to a specific factory or production year.
